By Fevi V. Silvosa

Alegriahanon once again witnessed the joyful,  entertaining and memorable celebration for the    annual town fiesta, which highlighted by the Kabibo Festival Dance Competition last May 14, 2012.

The delay of the event due to the constant rainfall did not stop the fighting spirits of the             contingents from the different barangays of the municipality. The Kabibo Dance Competition started with street dances held at the front of San Isidro Labrador Parish church along national highway. After the street dance presentation, the contingents proceeded to Efren St., Magsaysay St., Ugay St. and entered to ACES campus where the final showdown for the Kabibo Festival Dance Competition 2012    formally performed.

The program proper starts with an opening prayer followed by the singing of the National Anthem and Alegria Hymn. The Municipal Vice Mayor, Hon. Uldarico Uriarte, Jr. gave his welcome address. The judges for the said event were Jay Y. Cabahug, the Cultural Arts & Sports Coordinator; Remeliza R. Malignat, the P.E Instructor and Associate Artistic Director of Surigao Education Center Dance Troupe; Randy O. Tan, the Instructor & Lighting Designer of Surigao State College of Technology and the chairman of the board of judges, Sunnie C. Noe, the Director of  Cultural  Affair Office.

Together with applause and cheers from the people, the seven    contingents of barangays Pongtud, Gamuton, Ombong, Poblacion, Anahaw, San Pedro and Julio Ouano, respectively, show their very best by giving their full strength and energy in dancing. After that breath-taking showdown, Municipal Mayor Hon. Dominador G. Esma, Jr. delivered his celebration message emphasizing the true essence of Kabibo        Festival.

Contingent from Barangay Don Julio Ouano bring home the beacon being the winner of Kabibo Festival Dance Competition 2012 followed by Barangay Anahaw and Barangay Pongtud as the second and third winner respectively. On the Kabibo street dancing category, Barangay Poblacion garnered first place while Barangay Anahaw as the second place and Barangay Ombong as third place.

Meanwhile, the municipality participate the Sajaw Surigao Festival 2012 held at Surigao City last May 13, 2012 in celebration of the 111th Founding Anniversary of the Province of Surigao del Norte. The previous Kabibo Festival winner from Barangay Alipao was the municipality’s delegation on the said festival.

Surely, the KABIBO   Festival Dances Competition 2012 and its participation to Sajaw Surigao 2012 were another successful milestone of the municipality. The days to cherish overwhelm Alegriahanons for the KABIBO in the truest sense.
